Substance Abuse Poster Contest

This Year’s Subject

Any part of the “Just Say No” pledge

This poster contest is designed to inspire today’s youth to motivate and inform others through artistic  expression.  It provides young people with the opportunity to express their views on the “Just Say No” theme using their creativity and imaginations.  The youth may select their theme from any part of the “Just Say No” pledge (this part SHOULD be somewhere on the poster):

 

I pledge to lead a drug free life

I want to be healthy and happy I will say NO to alcohol

I will say NO to tobacco

I will help my friends say NO

I pledge to stand up for what I know is right

 

 

Eligibility: Level 1:  Grades K-4

Level 2:  Grades 5-8

 

Required Format:  Poster Size (11” X 14”)

Poster should not represent any existing commercial idea.

Child’s name, gender, grade, school, teacher’s names and sponsor club to

be on the pack of the poster to qualify.

 

Contest Dates:

CLUB:  Complete by December 31, 2019

ZONE:  Complete by January 31, 2020

DISTRICT:  February 8, 2020;  2nd Qtr. Conference. 

Please leave the posters at the registration table by 9:00 AM on Saturday, February 8, 2020

First Place:  $50 Wal-Mart Gift Card for a boy and girl at each level.

Second Place:  $30 Wal-Mart Gift Card for a boy and girl at each level.

Third Place:  $20 Wal-Mart Gift Card for a boy and girl at each level.

Club Bulletin Contest

Frequent communication between members is the KEY to any clubs’ successes. Therefore, an effective club bulleting is essential to communication, motivating, promoting and encouraging members to get more involved in your clubs’ efforts.

The first, second and third place club winners in each of the four categories will receive a club banner patch. These will be awarded at the District Convention.

Submit three (3) consecutive issues of your club bulletin (ONLY 3)

New Clubs may subject less if the club as just been organized

Prepare a cover sheet that includes the following info:

Meeting frequency (weekly, bi-monthly, monthly)

Judging Criteria: The following are the judging criteria in determining the winners of the 2019-2020 contest:

Meeting time, place and day

 

Personalization (10 points)

Short well written updates about events

Short well written testimonials by members

Content  (10 points)

Date and program of next meeting

Report on last meetings’ program

Club Scrapbook Contest

A scrapbook is the one club record that binds the activities and events of the entire year. It shows potential members an interesting glimpse of some of your club and activities. It can help foster fellowship among members by allowing them to recall events and experiences together. It also provides your club with a treasure of memories.

Contest & Deadline

Club Scrapbooks will be judged according to the criteria listed below. Scrapbooks must be turned in at the District Convention Registration Desk at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2020

Required Format

Title page-which will be the first page of the scrapbook and shall include the following :

Club Name

City where Club is located

Category from above

Membership as of Oct 1, 2019

Optimist Club (internal) The second page should include a picture of the club. The third page shall be a table of contents for this section. This section is only for details of your club. This includes District and International meetings, club meetings, clubs news, awards, NOW meetings, etc.

Optimist Club in the community (External) This section includes details of the activities of the club dealing with service, out in the community and fundraising. These activities include youth activities and community service projects ( Appreciation week, sports teams, Essay, Oratorical, CCDHH, Respect for Law, Tri-Star Sports, youth clubs, rodeos, Christmas Tree sales and holiday events, bingo, etc.) Publicity and photos are important aspects of the section because they show proof of the activity and the fun you had helping youth.

Judging Criteria: The following are the judging criteria in determining the winners of the 2019-2020 contest:

Originality (50 points)

Thought and imagination should be used In putting together your scrapbook. This is obviously a very subjective and the judges will look at the neatness and creative presentation of the information in the scrapbook.

Internal section (25 points)

Organize the scrapbook in the manner as outlined. Judges will look at organization and explanation of your clubs activities. This will indicate how your club participates in district activities and how you support them, as well as your attention to new members, club building, etc.

External section- (25 points)

This is very important in the eyes of the judges because they show the idea of community awareness and what you are accomplishing in your area.
